Outdoor cooking with cooking equipment  may be great for a number of outdoor activities.

After finalizing the menu, you should now check whether you have all of the ingredients for the recipes as well as the proper equipments to bring with you. Do you need a gas stove? Or are you going to make do on an open fire or charcoals? How are you going to cook your meals? Ask these questions first.

You should also take time when it comes to choosing the perfect site, for safety issues. There might be restrictions on the area that you selected so make sure to find out first. There are common restrictions on beaches, camping grounds and other picnic groves. You should always pt safety first in case a fire starts.

For outdoor cooking, you should also bring a tarpaulin that is held together by two bamboo poles or any pole made of sturdy material. This is to protect the fuel products that may cause fire. If you do not have tarps, any fire resistant cloth will suffice.

When it comes to outdoor trips, it is wise to carry extra fuel for your camping stove. Unless you are just having a short trip, you can never be too careful when it comes to fuel. Be sure to pack them in quality containers though and place markers on them. This should be done so that you don’t get confused with the materials you bring. You don’t want to confuse water and fuel accidently on the trip. Also make sure that they are properly sealed to avoid any leaks during the trip. These are serious fire hazards so be extra careful when handling them.

Lastly, it is also requested that outdoor campers leave the camp in the same condition before, if not better. This is more of a moral responsibility and sensitivity to other campers. Make sure that the fire is put out, and cover the area with soil once more. This may be getting redundant, but there is never enough warning when it comes to outdoor safety. You could opt to make a checklist of all the safety measures that you should take so you would remember all of them.

Eat! Summer is a perfect time to change the way you eat – even if only for a day.

Make popsicles and have them with dinner! Picnic on the living room floor, on the porch, or in the backyard. Try some new foods, try a new recipe.

Music! Many communities have free summer concerts.

Take a picnic. Meet friends, make new ones. Be sure to dance!

Books! Have a Book Festival!

Grab pillows, blankets, make a fort and bring out the “old” children’s books that your kids may have outgrown.  They love reading them again.  And this time, maybe they’ll be reading them to you! Libraries – visit often and take part in their summer reading programs. Be sure you have a stack of books for yourself. Read cartoons, comic books, and magazines, too.

Art! Summer is a great time to explore free-form art:

Sidewalk chalk – Decorate your sidewalk…and your neighbor’s (ask permission, of course).  Invite them to join you.  Decorate the neighborhood! Washable markers make great body paint.  Draw on each other and then wash it all off under the sprinkler. Have lots of paper around…make little books, hang butcher paper on the side of the garage for a mural, envelopes and funny stickers for letters to grandma, make paper airplanes and have a flying contest. Papier mache’ (from very inexpensive powdered wallpaper paste) is a great way to create 3-dimensional forms, use found objects and paint the finished ‘creature.’ Paint or collage rocks.  Paint smooth rocks to liven up the garden.  Older children enjoy cutting out magazine pictures.  Mod Podge attaches pictures and also protects them from weather.  Add glitter paint, sparkles, googly eyes and gems for truly spectacular art!

And after all that, they may still say, “Mom, I’m bored!” That’s great!  Bring it on!  Let it happen!  Listen to their complaints (with interest but do not solve their dilemma).  Kids need to experience boredom…out of it comes creativity, innovation and a belief in their own capabilities.

And yes, the kids will argue and fight.  Keep an ear out for danger, otherwise, let them work it out – outside!  They are learning how to negotiate and navigate social relationships.

Do you feel like your always running out for something? Well, why not commit to getting all your errands done in one trip!

This will save you a ton on gas and time. By keeping a running list, you will be able to get everything done in one trip, and be able to really enjoy your down time once you actually get through your front door. The best way to save money is not to spend money at all! Look for things you can do that are still fun, but that don’t cost a cent other than the gas to get there. Go for a hike at a nearby state park, have your friends over for a game night, or volunteer at a local organization.

These are all great ways to spend your time and save some real cash.

Want to celebrate Valentine’s Day in a different way? We’ve collected a bunch of unique ideas – special ways to show how much you care about your spouse, family members and friends you cherish.

Heart-Felt Valentine’s Meal ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Make up a batch of heart-shaped pancakes for a yummy Valentine’s breakfast or brunch. Just pour the batter in the frying pan in a free-form heart shape and serve with strawberries and whipped cream.

Balloon Goodies ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Insert candy surprises into balloons before inflating them – add a folded-up Valentine’s message then inflate each balloon. Tie with a red ribbon and attach to your loved one’s chair for them to find Valentine’s morning.

Family Affair ~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Have the children help you prepare red Jello with cinnamon hearts mixed in, mashed potatoes colored with pink food coloring, heart- shaped cookies and any other creative ways to present your Valentine’s Day meal.

The Gift of Time ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Give a hand-made coupon for some work you can do to free-up some time for your spouse or parent. For example, a coupon good for cleaning Dad’s garage or for a full-house vacuuming for your wife. How about a coupon for your best friend – you can walk her dog or baby sit one evening.

Each of you can create individual notes, say 4 or 6 each, to describe a special surprise – a back rub, a bubble bath, kisses from head to toe, a special meal – fold up the notes and toss them into a jar. You can take turns having fun plucking a coupon from the jar and doing what it says.

You can prepare this one for your spouse or for your children to enjoy. Write up little notes about how you feel and what they mean to you and place them around the house along with a candy heart or other treat. Add a riddle at the end of each note about where to find the next note. At the last note, have something special waiting there. For example, you can be waiting for your hubby in a candle-lit bubble bath with two glasses of wine. For your children, then can find a teddy bear or other toy or treat.

Less Fortunate ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Visit a hospital or chronic care home to pass out small Valentine surprises to the residents. They will enjoy the care and attention from something so unexpected.

Alone? ~~~~~~

No one special to share Valentine’s Day with? Sure you have! You! Why not pamper yourself with a candlelit bubble bath, then prepare your favorite gourmet meal and rent the latest comedy video. Or treat yourself to a day at the spa, or a day at the gym with a step or aerobics class. Plan for Valentine’s Day at least a week in advance – you’ll find yourself looking forward to your special treats and your quality time with yourself, by choice.

Sneak in love notes and chocolate kisses in your sweetheart’s or children’s cereal

With everyone trying to save money, we all are on the look out for some cheap, yet fun things to do this summer. Read on for ten great ideas to do this summer that will not burn a hole in your pocket. Redecorate Try rearranging your apartment, or any room in your house. You will find this lots of fun to do, and see yourself living in an entirely new place and not in your dull old room. Also take the time to arrange your closet, book, DVD or CD collection. Exercise Exercise can be a great way to have fun and stay in good condition. Try to go jogging, cycling or playing a sport along with your friend, find someone full of energy and who you look forward to spending time with. This way you will want to exercise just to be with your friend. Take an hour everyday to exercise and by the end of summer you should be fit and raring to go. Meditate You will find yourself refreshed and energized after you finish meditating. It is a very relaxing and invigorating method to pass time, release stress and keep up focus. Meditation helps you find your inner self so be sure to make easy changes in your lifestyle, that will bring you inner peace and comfort. Something New Have you ever wanted to play tennis like Serena Williams or sing like a Whitney Houston? This summer try learning a new talent or be creative. Whatever it is, summer is a great time to pick up a new hobby. You can start by learning to cook some new recipes, learn to paint, make crafts and cards, take photographs, play the guitar etc. You will be astonished to see how artistic you are once you put your mind to it. If you spend an hour every day, by the end of summer you should be great at your new skill and be impressing everyone around you. Explore Your City Take your local map, you will realize there are many places in your city you have never seen. Try and take some time to visit the popular spots in your city. Going to these places even on your own can be lots of fun. Take your camera, and make a video of your visit. Art galleries and museums are fun places to see. Volunteer Yourself Go to the nearest animal shelter, orphanage or old age home and you will find so many things to do. Your entire day will be spent in doing something important to the society. Spending even an hour talking or playing board games with residents whose families can’t visit them, makes a huge amount of change in their lives. This is a great way to spend the day. Try going once a week to your chosen place of volunteering, you can make this a weekly routine. Library The library is a refuge to all book worms. You can rent many books, magazines or movies that will help you pass time. Try and finish a certain number of books this summer, you can read them at your preferred reading spot too – the couch, a hammock, even a tree. Usually libraries have summer programs, you can ask the relevant details to your local library. Picnic Nothing compares to going on a picnic with your family or buddies, its a great way to spend the summer. You will get a lot of fresh air, sunlight and exercise. Just stretch out on a blanket and take the day in. Ask each of your friends to bring a dish of treats and you have a feast for yourself. You can couple activities such as playing Frisbee, a water gun fight to cool off or flying a kite. The Green Touch How about trying your hand at gardening. some packets of seeds and plant your own fruits, vegetables or herbs and use them for cooking daily. They can also be given to your neighbors or friends as gifts. Planting some in your garden or your backyard is a productive hobby. Involving children in the watering, planting etc is a great way to pass time. Hiking and Camping Here is another free outdoor activity, to be explored this summer. There are many hiking trails that can be found in your local area. You can go up a mountain, if you feel like some action or take a local trail for a laid back hike. Take all your camping gear, call your pals and camp out in your very own backyard with all your friends, have a fun time sleeping under the stars and enjoy the night. You can also try camping out at the local regional/national park for some change in scenery, and an adventurous night. Hope all these ideas help you make the most of this summer!

Have you considered an eco-friendly date?

I just read that the northern Gulf of Mexico, my favorite body of water, has a dead zone around the Texas and Louisiana border. Its an area so devoid of oxygen it can no longer sustain life. Fish have left the area. This news was a shock but it got me to thinking about ways I could “go green” in support of the planet. I’m planning a date for the weekend, so I decided the best place to start is with my dating life.

If you’re looking for something different to do on a date try one or all of these five eco-friendly date ideas.

1. Plant A Tree

Plant a tree sapling at your home or your dates home. Or you can plant one for local seniors in your area or at the youth center. You can pick up a tree sapling at your local nursery or home improvement store. Don’t add any pressure. It doesn?t have to symbolize the start of a great relationship. But it could.

2. Pick Your Own Fruit

Picking your own apples, strawberries or pumpkins is a great way to spend a morning. Then go home and make a delicious dish with your healthy treasure. Make the recipe together for further bonding. Ideas include apple pie, strawberry shortcake, pumpkin bread ?its all good. Visit a local farm within an hour drive from your city.

3. Visit the Farmer’s Market

If going to the farm is not convenient, go to a farmer’s market instead and shop for organic food. Try a new wine, bread and cheese. Then go to the park for a picnic or home to cook a healthy dinner for two.

4. Paddle The Water

Another eco-friendly date idea is to spend time on the water. Head out to the lake, rent a kayak for two, and paddle downstream. Enjoy the beauty of nature, the chirping of the birds, and each other. Take lunch in a waterproof container for an impromptu picnic.

5. Bike The Trail

Bikes not only don’t pollute the air, they also help build a healthy heart and strong legs. There are many bike trails you can choose from in local parks, rails to trails, or just in your neighborhood. A good information source is, Rails to Trails. Visit www.traillink.com.

My date and I decided to bike to the Farmer’s market. We bought seafood and veggies for stir fry. Then we took it all to his place to christen his brand new Wok. It was a wonderful day.
